Australians purchased 1.12-million new vehicles in the 2013-14 Financial Year – just shy of the all-time record of 1.13-million set in the previous Financial Year.
Toyota lead the way again with total Financial Year sales of more than 200,000 vehicles, some 90,000 ahead of second-placed Holden.
For the six months which ended on 30 June, Toyota sold 101,105 vehicles, 78 per-cent higher than number two Holden (56,773).
In June, Toyota recorded sales of 20,808 to deliver a total of 101,105 for the first six months of 2014.
Toyota Corolla and Hi-Lux again posted the double, racking-up number one and number two in the best-selling vehicle table with monthly totals of 4,648 and 4276 vehicles respectively.
Holden was second in June with sales of 12,332 – the company’s best June performance since 2011. Malibu, Trax and Colorado all set new sales records.
Third in June and best full-line importer was Hyundai with sales of 10,008 – an all-time monthly record for the Korean giant.
Hyundai actually ranked second overall for passenger car sales in June and individual models ix35, i20 and Veloster topped their segments.
However for the first six months of the year, Mazda is the best-selling full-line importer with a total of 51,910 vehicles. In June, Mazda was the fourth best-selling brand with sales of 9,374 vehicles.
Hats-off to Renault with sales of 4380 vehicles in the sixth months which ended in June – 52.5 per-cent up year-on-year and to Fiat Chrysler which posted the best-ever single month of sales for all brands, the best-ever quarter and the best-ever half year.
