Possibly not the vehicle for Melbourne Fashion Week but sure to be popular in the mining and rural sectors, Toyota has launched a workhorse double-cab version of the 70-Series LandCruiser.
In fact Australia is the first global market to launch the fourth body style for the Toyota LandCruiser – officially labeled the LC79 double cab – which is priced from $63,990.
The Toyota LandCruiser Double Cab comes in two model grades (entry-level Workmate and more up-scale GXL) and both are powered by Toyota’s remarkable twin-turbocharged V8 diesel engine driving its 151kW/430Nm through a five-speed manual transmission and part-time 4WD with a two-speed transfer case.
Mining companies and rural folk have been clamoring for this tougher-than-tough addition to the Toyota LandCruiser range which provides seating for five and one-tonne payload.
While a definite workhorse, Toyota has equipped the LandCruiser Double Cab with most of the features included in the most recent LandCruiser updates – anti-lock brakes, A-pillar air inlet snorkel, better seats and audio system with Bluetooth hands-free and voice recognition.
The Double Cab Workmate model comes with 16-inch steel split rims, aluminium side steps, vinyl seats and floor coverings and black bumpers. Differential locks are on the options list.
GXL versions score 16-inch alloy wheels, over-fender flares, remote central locking, differential locks, fog lights, power windows, cloth seats and carpet for the floor.
