For the fifth time in history, Toyota’s HiLux ute range was Australia’s best-selling vehicle last month as the automotive industry recorded its second-best April result on record.
In total, 81,401 new vehicles were sold nationally last month – up 17,436 units or 27.3 per cent compared to April last year and the second highest April on record, beaten only by 2008’s 84,061 sales.
The HiLux helped Toyota maintain its number one position with 16,697 sales for the month securing 20.5 per cent of the market.
Holden maintained second position with 9,964 sales in April for 12.2 per cent market share. Included in those figures was an all-time record for Holden’s Cruze small sedan – 2,514 sales.
And although Holden Commodore's monthly sales of 3,165 was beaten by the HiLux, year-to-ate the Commodore remains Australia best-selling model.
Ford maintained third position last month with sales of 8,192 vehicles, ahead of Mazda (6,805) and Hyundai (6,725).
Year-to-date - compared to the corresponding fourth months in 2009 - all of the top-ten best-selling brands are up, except ninth-placed Honda whose 13,324 sales so far this year are just 1483 behind its first quarter result from last year.
