Those who feel that the standard Toyota HiLux SR5 dual-cab lacks a certain on-road menace can now have TRD parts fitted to boost the pick-up’s aesthetic appeal, all for a driveaway price of $58,990 and only available in black or white exterior paint options.

For reference, the standard SR5 dual-cab 4x4 has an MSRP of $55,990, making the the standard fitment of these TRD parts that add a total of 15 items to the component list, comparatively good value if contrasted against purchasing them separately.

Of those 15, seven come from the TRD (Toyota Racing Development) catalogue, starting with a new skid plate, new grille, lower bumper cover, and flared fenders. There’s also matte black 18-inch alloy and a black sports bar and additional mouldings along the body side and the lading edge of the bonnet.

Inside, its pretty much standard fare with the SR5, but new TRD-branded carpet floor mats and a TRD gear knob make an appearance to complement the leather-accented upholstery and trim. That same branding also follows back outside to the mud flaps, ute liner, soft tonneau cover, and taillight covers. They’ve also added a towing kit, with tongue, ball, and requisite wiring harness.

Under the bonnet lives the proven 2.8-litre turbodiesel four-cylinder that delivers 130kW and 450Nm (or 420Nm for the manual variant) of torque. Being the most well-specified in the HiLux range, this ‘TRD-ified’ version gets all the SR5’s features such as cruise control, satellite navigation, powered driver’s seat, reversing camera, keyless entry, seven airbags, auto-levelling LED headlamps, and rear locking differential.

On the introduction of the newest addition to the HiLux family, Tony Cramb, executive director of sales and marketing for Toyota Australia, said: "Local buyers voted with their wallets to make HiLux the best-selling vehicle in Australia last year - and the majority clearly indicated their preference for upmarket features combined with HiLux's renowned go-anywhere capability,”

"We have responded to that demand by compiling premium components, including the respected TRD brand, that will further distinguish HiLux from the competitors and from every other HiLux in our range,"
