The Toyota Foturner enters a market that will see it compete against the likes of the Isuzu MU-X, Ford Everest and the soon to be launched Mitsubishi Pajero Sport nee Challanger.
The Toyota Fortuner is powered exclusively by a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that produces 130kW of power and 420Nm of torque when matched to the standard six-speed manual gearbox. For an additional $2000 across all grades a six-speed automatic gearbox can be added increasing the torque to 450Nm.
Fuel consumption is impressive, with a combined-cycle claim of 7.8 litres per 100km for the manual, and the automatic uses a claimed 8.6L/100km.
Fortuner's seven seats are arranged in a 2-3-2 configuration. The 60/40 split-fold second-row seat has a one-touch slide and tumble feature while the 50/50 third-row seats are stowable.
Depending on seat layout the luggage capacity ranges from 200 litres to 1,080 litres when packed to the top of the seat backs.
The Fortuner comes with standard equipment including air-conditioning, rear differential lock, touch-screen audio display with Toyota Link** connected mobility, cruise control, side steps and 17-inch steel wheels with all-terrain tyres, durable fabric seat-coverings with contrast stitching, projector-style headlamps, LED tail-lamps, an air-conditioned cool box, Bluetooth connectivity, six speakers, three 12V accessory sockets, audio and phone controls mounted on the steering wheel, eco and power drive modes and a multi-information display (MID) in the instrument cluster.
