Toyota’s top-selling Corolla is hardly a fuel-guzzler as it is, but Corolla fuel consumption can improve by up to 33 per-cent thanks to the hybrid-powered model which is due on-sale mid-year.
Toyota Corolla hatchback hybrid will be available in one model grade and will be the fifth model sold in Australia powered by the company’s excellent Hybrid Synergy Drive (the others are Camry, Prius, Prius c and Prius v.
That one mode grade Toyota Corolla hybrid boasts some impressive standard kit including satellite navigation, Toyota Link connected mobility, dual-zone climate-control air-conditioning and bi-LED headlights.
Power comes from Toyota’s 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine delivering 73kW of power at 5200epm and peak torque of 142Nm at 4000rpm – supplemented by a 60kW, 650V electric motor.
Combined output is 100kW and drive is via CVT automatic transmission.
It’s a ‘win-win’ according to Toyota’s sales and marketing boss Tony Cramb who said: “The combination of Toyota’s hybrid technology and Australia’s best-selling car gives us a unique opportunity to braoded the appeal of both.”
Toyota will reveal the full specifications and price of the Corolla hatchback hybrid closer to launch.
