Toyota Calculates Hybrid Benefits

Here’s a real world benefit for you – with 2.68 million hybrid-power vehicles sold, Toyota reckons 13.61 million tones less carbon dioxide emissions have entered the Earth’s atmosphere (than if these vehicles were purely gasoline-fuelled).

Measured at sea level, that equates to more than 7.28 billion cubic metres of exhaust gas that hasn’t been emitted. Alternatively, that amount of gas would provide a 2.2cm covering of both Victoria and Tasmania.

Toyota has been selling hybrid-power vehicles since 1997 and in 2009, sold more than 500,000 in a single year.

Toyota Prius is the world’s best-selling hybrid vehicle, with more than one million delivered while the Hybird Camry is ranked number two with total sales of 190,000.
