Toyota Australia has issued a recall that effects their HiLux pick-ups, specifically the 4x4 and 4x2 Hi Rider that were sold between September 2015 to January 2017, or over 39,000 examples locally.
The issue in question surrounds the auxiliary battery kit available under the Toyota Genuine Accessories pack, which were sold for fitment on the HiLux between 2015 and 2017.
Damaged mounting points on the fender apron caused by vibration on rough roads could lead to interference with the surrounding wire harness, resulting in an the illumination of warning lights and even an engine stall, though that’s been identified as a worst case scenario.
A breakdown of Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) or Vehicle Identifier Section (VIS) for the effected 4x4 and 4x2 HiLux Hi Riders can be found here.
Toyota will be contacting owners through mail, instructing them to visit their nearest Toyota dealer for an inspection and fix of the auxiliary battery kit and fender apron upon arrival of replacement components.
