"Release candidate" prototype Model 3 has a little fun.
Taking to Twitter, everybody’s favourite EV boss Elon Musk posted a video of a Tesla Model 3, the firm’s most affordable model to date, out on a test run.
The vehicle in question is described as a “release candidate version,” whatever that is, and will likely serve as a test bed for further refinement of the steering, suspension, and software before the car goes on sale later this year.
The Model 3 is a compact saloon, aimed at premium volume sellers like the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, which will carry a base price-tag of US$35,000 (or $65,000). Despite it being a new entrant dominated by established players, Tesla says they already have 373,000 pre-orders on record.
Tesla claims that the entry-level Model 3 will pack an electric driving range of 350kms, with the century sprint dispatched in less than 6-seconds. The base model should eventually be joined by more potent variants, which should offer better driving ranges too. The Model 3 lineup will offer Autopilot self-driving capabilities, Supercharger fast-charging ability, a full-length glass roof, five seats, and a new infotainment system.
