Tesla Acquires Automated Production Specialist

In an interesting, though not completely surprising move, Tesla has added Grohmann Engineering of Germany to its portfolio of companies. The German firm, to be renamed ‘Tesla Grohmann Automation,’ is a specialist in automated manufacturing based in Prüm, and was reportedly acquired to assist Tesla's motoring division as it prepares to begin production of its massively-popular Model 3 sedan.

When it became known that bookings for the entry-level Model 3 had reached six-figures, it was predicted that the Californian manufacturer would be forced to either acquire or cooperate with a firm in the automated-production industry to streamline production and enable the company to meet demands. Grohmann Engineering possess vast experience in various fields from consumer electronics to biotech, with an impressive presence across the globe. This will undoubtedly spur Tesla’s growth in the industries they target, as they push forward with a further diversification of its business.

Although a Grohmann announcement on the acquisition made mention of Tesla’s intention to opening new factories for EV assembly worldwide, a Tesla spokesperson said very clearly that no cars would be produced at the Grohmann factory. This still leaves a question mark regarding a possible production facility in Europe, where demand for the brand’s luxury EVs continues to grow.
