The Suzuki Swift is quite obviously very due for a big refresh. Actually, an entirely new model would be more accurate, and that’s exactly what will becoming in 2017, prior to which an official debut is on the books some time this year.
A few pictures showing a brand new Swift has emerged from the internet, specifically Autoexpress, that clearly shows the next-gen Swift in computer-rendered form. Testament to the current Swift’s design, the purported new model sticks the silhouette we’re already familiar with.
There are, of course, very obvious changes that include an overall lower-looking and more sloping stance, with a large hexagonal grille flanked by two large intakes and a pair of squintier and more swept back headlamps.
The new body also shows more emphasis on the car’s shoulder line and subtle undulations from the car’s door panels to the rear wheel arch – PS, there’s also new wheels that look quite flash for a Suzuki, but our hopes are kept at bay as to whether they’ll remain all the way to production-spec.
It’s a smart look, and one that Suzuki can hang their hats on to build a broader audience to their already popular small car. There should be a sportier Swift Sport on the way too, which will have a tough act to follow.
The details on these new breed of Swifts are rather scarce, but should Suzuki’s motor show outings be called into the equation, Suzuki could have plucked quite a bit of design and engineering from their iK-2.
More interesting would be speculation on the next Swift’s engines and whether it will include their new range BOOSTERJET direct-injection turbocharged units, either with 1.0-litre or 1.4-litres of displacement, paired to either a manual or automatic transmissions.
