Two weeks ago during the annual TT races, Mark Higgins broke his own lap record of the treacherous 60kms TT course lap behind the wheel of a North American specification Subaru WRX STi.
Higgins left the mark at 19mins15secs – an average speed of just over 198km/h.
The car largely unmodified – roll cage, racing seat and harness, fire extinguishing system, firmer springs/dampers, Dunlop Direzza tyres and an unmuffled exhaust system (the latter to help alert the crowd around the road course that the car was coming).
Now Subaru North America has released a YouTube video of this staggering piece of road racing driving but be prepared it actually looks quite tame (a few years back in a previous record attempt, Higgins had a massive ‘tank-slapper’ at the bottom of Bray Hill at around 240km.h).

In a few days Subaru North America says it will upload a full unedited in-car video of Higgins massaging the WRX STi to this record-breaking lap.
