Subaru has confirmed its remarkable new ‘Eyesight’ system will debut on 2012 model Liberty and Outback.
Using tiny stereo cameras mounted near the rear view mirror, the Eyesight system recognizes numerous road hazards and alerts the driver.
Included in the system is ‘Pre-Crash Braking’ which at speeds under 30km/h can actually automatically bring the car to a halt (or otherwise significantly slow the impact speed).
Other incorporated systems include ‘Progressive Start Control’, ‘Adaptive Cruise Control’, ‘Lane Departure warning’, Vehicle Sway Warning’, and ‘Progressive Motion Monitor’.
For more than 12 months Subaru Australian engineers have been working with colleagues from head office in Japan testing the ‘Eyesight’ system on Australian roads.
