Skoda, Volkswagen’s Czech Republic brand, has commenced production of its all-new Citigo compact car.
The three-cylinder Citigo is being manufactured at Skoda’s plant in Bratislava, Slovakia. Outputs for the two 1.0-litre powerplants are 45kW and 57kW.
Unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show last month, the Citigo enters a new market segment for Skoda. Initially the compact Skoda will be launched in the Czech Republic as a three-door and will be joined by five-door models early in the new year.
Skoda will introduce the Citigo to all European markets in the first quarter of next year.
Measuring 3.56-metres in length and 1.65-metres in width, the compact Skoda is a city commuter which can seat four adults. Safety looks good with the Citigo debuting Skoda’s first head/thorax side airbags as well as City Safe Drive active braking.
Skoda Australia says the Citigo is under consideration for local sale.
