Skoda Releases First Teasers Of Kodiaq SUV

We’ve known for some time now that Skoda, the Czech automaker owned by the Volkswagen Group, is developing its own medium-sized SUV called the Kodiaq. But now they’ve released our first glimpses of what’s to be the production version ahead of its full premiere in Berlin on September 1st.

The Kodiaq, an all-new model for the automaker, was previewed for the first time in concept form as the Vision S with cues that were at once futuristic and also realistic enough to be an easy transition from show floor to showroom. And judging by the sketches, renders, and camouflaged prototypes Skoda has released so far, they intend to keep as much of the concept’s flair as possible.

This new SUV will be built upon common underpinnings within the Volkswagen Group, sharing underpinnings with the recently introduced second-generation Tiguan. It will be capable of seating 7, two more than the Tiguan, and is said to have the largest boot in its class at 2,065 litres with the seats folded down.

Skoda will also be offering an array of advanced safety, assistance, and connectivity features with the Kodiaq such as front and rear LED illumination as standard, a new infotainment system, real time top-down 360-degree exterior vehicle view taken with wide-angle cameras mounted at the front, rear, and sides, as well as rear traffic detection and braking.

Like other Skodas, the Kodiaq’s choice of engines and transmissions will mirror that of models within the Volkswagen line-up, so expect TSI and TDI drivetrains along with DSG transmissions sending power to either the front or all four wheels.
