Skoda wheeled-out its acclaimed Rapid compact hatchback at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney.
The Rapid goes on-sale locally next year and is significant as it is the first all-new Skoda model to feature the latest design language of Volkswagen’s Czech Republic brand.
At the front that new look is highlighted by a new-design Skoda badge, fine chrome grille and clover leaf pattern headlights.
In profile the Skoda Rapid runs a stylish coupe-like look thanks to its relatively long wheelbase and nicely shaped glasshouse.
At the rear the clever hatchback design is punctuated by Skoda’s hallmark C-shaped lights.
Engine choice is a 77kw/175Nm 1.2-litre TSI or a 1.4-litre with 90kW/200Nm.
Measuring 4.4-metres in length and 1.7-metres in width, the Rapid delivers interior space which Skoda claims is best-in-class and a 530-litre boot.
And here’s something from the ‘Why Hasn’t Someone Thought Of That Before’ department – inside the Skoda Rapid (door-mounted) is a rubbish bin to keep the interior clear of clutter (families especially will appreciate that touch).
Skoda will announce full local details and prices closer to next year’s launch.
