Another WRC event has been run and Sebastien Ogier has won once again taking his tally to four for the 2014 championship. Over the weekend Ogier won the Rally Italia Sardegna, Mads Ostberg in a Citroen was 2nd 1:23.1 behind and Jari-Matti Latvala taking 3rd, a further 9.7 seconds behind.
“I am overjoyed! This win was definitely one of the toughest of my career. Right from day one, Julien and I have pushed ourselves to the very limit here on Sardinia. In this heat, and with the extremely slippery conditions on the roads, we had to risk everything to put Jari-Matti Latvala and Miikka Anttila under pressure. It ultimately paid off, and we won. We may lead the World Championship at the halfway point in the season, but that is no reason to relax: Jari-Matti is on top form at the moment. However, we also have an eye on the others. Mads Østberg was impressive, and congratulations to Andreas Mikkelsen for his win on the Power Stage!” said Ogier.
Kiwi driver Hayden Paddon who was racing for Hyundai Shell World Rally Team was forced to stop on the final stage, but still managed to complete the rally. His efforts meant he was the first Hyundai home in 12th position.
The guys did a great job last night to repair the car and to get me back out into the rally today. Like yesterday, we were early out on the road so we had to contend with slippery conditions and loose gravel. In this morning’s stages, we had to look after the tyres and that affected the times but I felt more confident in the car today. I knew it was going to be a tough first rally with the team because I have never driven here before, but we have had good progression. We’ve not been pushing and have concentrated on getting to the end of each stage, learning as much as possible both for myself and for the team. Overall, there are definitely things we could have done better but this is not a one off event so we can use this to build for the next event.”said Paddon
