It only took a single day of racing but 2013 WRC World Champion Sebastien Ogier to take the overall lead in the Rally of Sweden. Ogier heads a trifecta of VW's with teammate Andreas Mikkelsen in 2nd place 5.8s behind and Jari-Matti Latvala a further 12.2 seconds of the pace in 3rd.
“Starting first on the road is never an easy job and I would have settled immediately to be in the top three tonight so I’m really happy with the day,” said Ogier, who won three stages.
Behind the trio of VW's is Estonian Ott Tänak in a Ford Fiesta who's just 2,6 seconds down on Latvala. Rounding out the top six Mads Östberg in a Ciroën and Mikko Hirvonen in a Ford who are tied 7.7 seconds behind Tänak.
Fairing better than their first outing both Hyundai i20's have completed the first tay with Thierry Neuville and Juho Hänninen trailing the leaders by 32.0 seconds and 42.0 seconds respectively.
