Just launched in Europe and not due in Australia until early next year, looks like Audi’s updated A7 Sportback lineup will be worth the wait.

Audi Australia says local details are still being finalized but even this far out has confirmed the ‘Downunder’ range will include the return of the superb S7 Sportback plus a new 160kW 3.0 TDI Quattro Stronic entry-level model.

Audi says changes to the new A7 Sportback are substantial – engines, transmissions, styling and infotainment systems.

Up-front is a new-design bumper, revised ‘Singleframe’ grille and standard LED lights including dynamic turn signals (already standard at the rear).

Measuring 4.97-metres in length, the gloriously-style Audi A7 Sportback has always delivered standout on-road presence but under that beautiful skin is real practicality – cargo space is a massive 1,390l with the rear seat folded or 535l with the rear seat in-place.

Inside is a new colour palette (five choices for seat colour alone) plus new materials including an aluminium/Beaufort walnut inlay and Valcona leather. Front seats can be optioned with ventilation and massage functions and you can also option a four-seat version with two individual rear seats.

In the infotainment system department, the standout system sees MMI Navigation plus with MMI touch with a powerful graphics processor from Nvidia combined with Bang & Olufsen audio.

Safety technology includes adaptive cruise control with ‘stop & go’ function, improved night vision assistant, side assist and active lane assist.

European customers can choose from two petrol and three diesel engines with outputs ranging from 160kW to 245kW. Probably the standout is the 3.0 TDI biturbo clean diesel which delivers its 235kW via eight-speed Tiptronic transmission (seven-speeds for all other models).
