Renault has unveiled an updated version of their fourth-generation Clio that brings with it some new equipment, engine options, as well as a mildly tweaked exterior and interior. Seeing as how the current Clio is nearly four years old, Renault saw fit to breathe some new life into their small hatch to compete with, among others, the Ford Fiesta and Mazda2.
Beginning with what some will no doubt point to being a very subtle exterior revision, the LED headlamps (branded Pure Vision by Renault) are new with C-shaped daytime running lights to match the new Koleos, Megane, Scenic and Talisman, there’s also a new front grille, new rear bumper, new alloy wheels, and a chrome strip at the base of the boot lid.
Additionally, Renault has given the facelifted Clio some new paint finishes: Titanium Grey, Intense Red, Pearlescent White, and Iron Blue. Front parking sensors and a reversing camera are also standard on some variants, as will be Renault’s Easy Park Assist system that autonomously manoeuvres into a parking spot.
The new Clio’s cabin, however, doesn’t receive much newness by way of visuals but Renault says that the interior quality has improved dramatically with material choices typically reserved for their more expensive models finding their way liberally into the Clio. Choices of infotainment systems has also expanded, curiously, with buyers selecting between Media Nav Evolution, Renault R-Link Evolution, or the less complex R&Go. Certain variants will also get a standard BOSE speaker array.
New engines for the Clio includes a 1.5-litre dCi 110 four-cylinder diesel that produces 81kW, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission while the current 89kW 1.2-litre TCe 120 petrol engine also gains the option of being paired with a manual. Of course, Renault’s twin-clutch EDC transmission is still available for those who select an automatic transmission.
The car will be hitting showrooms in Europe starting in October, with final pricing to be announced as that date approaches. No word yet from Renault when exactly other markets, specifically Australia, will be getting the revised Clio. However, speculation remains high that it should be by the end of 2016.
