The Renault-Nissan Alliance has confirmed the launch of 10 vehicles within autonomous drive technology within the next four years.

They will be on the roads of the USA, Europe, Japan and China by 2020.

Nissan-Renault reckons 90 per-cent of road fatalities can be attributed to driver error and obviously autonomous technology will reduce that possibility.

This year we’ll see ‘single lane control’ which allows autonomous driving on highways, in 2018 the Alliance will unveil ‘multiple lane control’ which can negotiate hazards and change lanes and by 2020 you can look for ‘intersection autonomy’ to navigate city intersections and heavy urban traffic without driver intervention.

Although the Nissan-Renault Alliance commenced in 1999, it wasn’t until 2014 that both company’s engineering functions were converged to reduce duplication.

Former Nokia, NAVTEQ and Motorola executive Ogi Redzic has now been hired as the Alliance Senior Vice President, Connected Vehicles and Mobility Services.
