Renault’s all-new Megane hatchback will be launched next month – priced from $22,990 ($2,500 less than the current model’s starting price).

The Megane will be the first of five new models the French importer will launch between now and October’s Australian International Motor Show.

Next will be the all-new and very stylish small sedan known as the Fluence. Then comes the Megane Coupe-Cabriolet, the sporty duo of the Megane Sport 250 Cup and Cup Trophee, the all-new Kangoo van and the Clio Renault Sport Gordini Limited Edition.

It’s a powerful statement from Renault, France’s leading car maker, and marks another chapter in the brand’s resurgence in Australia.

The new Renault Megane shapes as a real contender in the hatchback market – undercutting the Volkswagen Golf and Mazda3 on price and delivering an impressive array of standard features.

Renault is maintaining the current model grades – entry level Dynamique and range topping Privilege. The latter comes with interior leather and standard satellite navigation with a 5.8-inch screen..

Styling is very contemporary with nice flowing lines and all models have standard safety features including six airbags, ABS brakes with EBD and EBA plus stability program.

Under the bonnet, Renault Megane’s 2.0-litre petrol engine delivers extra performance with 103kW/195Nm. Drive is to the front wheels via a six-speed manual or Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) auto.

The full range is:

Megane Dynamique (six-speed manual) $22,990
Megane Dynamique (CVT) $24,990
Megane Privilege (CVT) $29,990.
