Six BMW Group products have been awarded by the international jury handing-out the annual ‘Red Dot’ design awards.
The BMW 5 Series Sedan, 5 Series Grand Turismo, X1, two motorcycles – the F 800 R and S 1000 RR - as well as the Rolls-Royce Ghost (Rolls-Royce is owned by BMW) will receive the 2010 awards with the Ghost awarded the ultimate accolade ‘Red Dot: Best of the Best”.
First awarded in 1955, the Red Dot award is one of the most important awards in the world for product design - including not just automobiles but also architecture, household, home electronics, fashion, life science and medicine. For 2010, the jury of international design experts rated 4252 products from 57 nations in an assessment based on 17 criteria.
There were 24 Red Dot awards issued this year in the category ‘Automobile, Transport and Caravans' and BMW scooped one third of them – due recognition for the German brand’s superb styling efforts.
