Many will say this is the world’s ultimate high-performance luxury SUV – the new range Rover Sport SVR which is now arriving in Australia priced at $218,500.
Of course the Mercedes-Benz ML 63 and BMW X5M and X6M might have some argument with that claim…and they’ll also save you some coin at $182,900, $185,900 and $194,700 respectively.
Bit a Range Rover is a Range Rover and as the marque’s new performance leader, the Sport SVR is a headline act.
A creation of Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO), the SVR employs the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine for the Jaguar F-Type – that’s 405kW/680Nm driving through an eight-speed automatic transmission (the latter uprated for faster response).
The bad news is fuel consumption is a scary 12.8l/100kms but the good news is zero to 100km/h in 4.7 seconds.
Underneath is sports suspension, 21-inch or 22-inch alloy wheels and a sports tuned version of Range Rover’s all-wheel-drive system.
Hauling all of this up are massive Brembo brakes.
Inside are four sports seats, a 19-speaker audio system and the usual Range Rover luxuries…but with a sports twist naturally.
