Devastatingly fast no matter what.
Land Rover, the marque known for its go-anywhere luxury SUVs, has today released a video detailing the sheer breadth of abilities of a car many consider to be a bit of a compromise: The Range Rover Sport SVR.
The current model, which replaced the Discovery-based first generation in 2015, packs no less than 405kW of power from its V8 petrol, which is capable of launching the shouty family wagon from rest to 100km/h in just 4.7-seconds. On tarmac, that is.
We make that distinction about the surface because Land Rover has seen it fit to test the Range Rover Sport SVR’s ability to do the century sprint across a range of different terrains. The reason? To prove that the Sport SVR matches power with ability, and is capable of scorching performance at all times thanks to Terrain Response 2 technology.
Terrain Response 2 is a vastly-improved version of Land Rover’s proprietary driving-mode software, which allows the car to adapt automatically to the surface it’s on. There’s a manual override of its functions of course, which will permit drivers to set up their cars in advance, especially before some serious off-roading.
We won’t spoil the results of the century sprint times, but we urge you to watch the video above to get an idea of just how capable the Sport SVR is. For all its performance credentials, thankfully, it’s still a Range Rover through and through.
