Land Rover has produced a short film documenting the new Range Rover Sport’s 849km record breaking crossing of the Empty Quarter in Saudi Arabia.
Lead by 47 year-old Spanish off-road racer Moi Torrallardonaon the documentary captures the Range Rover completing the feat 10 hours and 22 minutes at an average speed of 51.87 mph (81.87 km/h).
Torrallardona said: “The Empty Quarter was an incredible challenge and one that will live with me for the rest of my life. The Range Rover Sport was the ideal tool for conquering the desert and it is great to be able to relive the challenge through this short documentary. The Empty Quarter provided a unique test for a standard production vehicle and thanks to the ability of the Range Rover Sport we came out victorious.”
The crossing was completed in a standard production new Range Rover Sport 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine, running standard tyres. The only modification to the vehicle was the fitment of an underbody protection plate.
