Not content with letting the Germans have all the fun, British luxury off-road marque Range Rover has been working on its entry into the lucrative coupe-SUV market, with what’s being called the ‘Range Rover Sport Coupe.’

Caught on video testing in Germany, the Sport Coupe shows almost nothing off in terms of design and styling, with camouflage applied extensively to hide all the possible details. What’s clear to see is its shrunken dimensions, which will undoubtedly result in slightly reduced practicality.

In the video, what the Sport Coupe does reveal are sequential indicators, which are… nice. The Sport Coupe will be Range Rover’s first entry into this segment, where BMW’s X6 and Mercedes-Benz’s GLE Coupe reign supreme. What the Sport Coupe may offer that the Germans don’t are a more up-to-date powertrain, with hybrid and plug-in hybrid models mooted. There’s even mention of bringing sister company Jaguar’s electric SUV powertrain, premiered on the I-Pace concept, into the mix.

Previously referred to as an ‘Evoque XL,’ it’s very difficult to place the new Sport Coupe accurately, though it’s said that it’s likely to be wedged between the Evoque and the Range Rover Sport. The Sport Coupe will be based on the same aluminium platform as the Jaguar F-Pace, and is set to benefit from the Jaguar’s excellent on road capabilities.
