It’s taken a while but finally the Europeans have a ute to rival the North Americans and our home-grown HSV and FPV models – the Volkswagen Amarok Power-Pickup.
Sadly it’s only a concept which teased the crowds at the annual Volkswagen Group enthusiasts meeting in Worthersee, Austria.
Under the bonnet is Volkswagen’s 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel with 200kW/600Nm on-tap driving through an eight-speed automatic transmission and 4MOTION all-wheel-drive. Zero to 100km/h takes 7.9 seconds.
Styling is straight from Volkswagen Racing – wider wheel-arches to house the 22-inch alloy wheels and 80mm lower suspension, a carbon-fibre rear diffuser and a front-end with a larger lower air intake, bi-xenon headlights and a chrome grille.
Inside are Nubuck leather sports seats and revised dashboard and trim in the Volkswagen Racing colours of red and white.
C’mon Volkswagen let’s get this baby into production – the good looks of the Amarok deserve a fair-dinkum hot version.
