PSA Peugeot Citroen just passed a milestone, producing over 1 million of their Euro 6 compliant BlueHDi diesel engines.
PSA Peugeot Citroen, in a tumultuous time for the diesel engine’s public image, has rolled out the one millionth unit of their Euro 6 emissions standard-complaint BlueHDi diesel engine at the engine facility in Trémery, France.
Available in 1.6 and 2.0-litre displacements, these engines would be found under the hoods of such cars in Australia as the Peugeot 308 hatchback and touring, Peugeot 508 GT, Citroen Grand Picasso, Citroen DS 4 Crossback, and Citroen DS 5.
PSA Peugeot Citroen are rather confident in their diesel mills’ claim to efficiency, power and (crucially) reduced environmental impact as the BlueHDi engines are built upon approximately 100 patents.
Of all that research and development poured into reducing exhaust emissions, the system could be boiled down to three specific components: a special oxidation catalyst, selective catalytic reduction technology, and an additive particulate filter – working in tandem to ensure these engines are as clean as they can be.
Christian Chapelle, the PSA Group’s Vice President of Powertrain and Chassis Engineering, said: “After pioneering the use of the particulate filter in 2000 and being the first carmaker to use SCR technology on all its vehicles, this milestone of one million BlueHDi engines – the most effective pollutant emissions reduction solution in the market – confirms PSA Group's commitment to offering its customers sustainable and clean mobility solutions.”
