Naturally the classic 911 shape continues – this time with a wheelbase extended by 100mm, lower height and new wheels up to 20-inch diameter.

Reduced fuel consumption has been a key in development of the new Porsche 911. Auto start-stop, a 45kgs weight reduction and new electro-mechanical power steering are just parts of the story.

The new Porsche 911 Carrera runs a 262kW, 3.4-litre version of the iconic flat six with direct injection. Driving through the optional seven-speed PDK transmission, combined cycle fuel consumption is 6.8l/100kms and with exhaust C02 rated at 194g/km, it’s the first Porsche sports car to get below 200g/km.

The Porsche Carrera S employs a 298kW, 3.8-litre, also with direct injection, and with the PDK transmission reduces fuel consumption by 14 per cent to 7.2l/100kms, despite delivering 11kW more power than its predecessor.

But the highlight of the Porsche 911 display in Frankfurt will no doubt be the limited edition 911 GT3 RS 4.0 – a road-going version of the GT3 racer. Only 600 will be produced and they’re all sold.

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre engine with 373kW on tap and laps the Nurburgring race circuit in 7:27 minutes.

Also in Frankfurt, Porsche will unveil the diesel version of its Panamera four-door. Powered by a 186kW/550Nm 3.0-litre V6, the standard Porsche Panamera diesel returns combined cycle fuel consumption of 5.4l/100kms or you can spec low rolling resistance tyres which lower consumption to 5.2l/100kms.

Porsche Cayman fans will see the limited edition (only 500) Cayman S Black Edition. The all-black Porsche Cayman accelerates from zero to 100km/h in 5.0 seconds thanks to the extra performance of its 246kW, 3.4-litre engine.

Porsche will also roll-out the Boxster E concept which features two electric motors – one for each axle – and all-wheel-drive. Porsche says the zero-emissions Boxster delivers similar performance to the current Boxster S.

And a highlight for Porsche history buffs will be the unveiling of the replica ‘Semper Vivus’, the first-ever hybrid drive vehicle which was created in 1900 by Ferdinand Porsche.
