Porsche has introduced an option for their fastest Macan variant, the Macan Turbo, called the Performance Pack. It adds enough of a power boost to bring the five-seater luxury compact SUV to performance parity with a 911.
With the new Pack, power from the Macan Turbo’s 3.6-litre V6 engine is increased by 30kW to 324kW, while torque is now up to 600Nm. To put its newfound legs into perspective, the Macan can now sprint from rest to 100km/h in 4.4 seconds, which is 0.4 seconds quicker than the Porsche 911 Carrera can manage.
That advantage in the dash can be attributed to the Macan’s enhanced four-wheel drive grip but is nonetheless impressive. Porsche has adjusted the bi-turbo engine’s power and torque curves to widen its power band, with maximum thrust being available as early as 1,500rpm and extends all the way to 4,500rpm.
The Performance Pack also adds a new sports exhaust system and a reduced ride height by 15mm on the standard suspension setup. However, buyers selecting the optional air suspension will have further adjustability and a ride height than can be dynamically lowered by as much as 10mm over the regular Macan Turbo.
To cope with the extra power and speed (top speed is now 272km/h), Porsche has included uprated brakes in the Performance Pack with disc diameter increasing by 30mm to 390mm and paired to 6-piston calipers.
Distinguishing the Performance Pack-equipped Macans will be a little tougher. However, buyers can select the Turbo Exterior Package for that extra touch of visual menace. It comes with exterior black trim accents, 21-inch wheels shared with the 911 Turbo and dynamic LED headlamps.
A further Turbo Interior Package can also be selected, furnishing the cabin with carbon fibre trim and upholstery that constitutes a blend of leather and Alcantara.
