Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Confirmed For Geneva

After much waiting, it looks like the world will finally be treated to a near-finished version of Porsche’s Panamera Sport Turismo at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show next month.

What began as a back in 2012 as a concept car that fuelled speculation that the Zuffenhausen automaker was developing a wagon or shooting brake body style for their fast luxury saloon, will likely come to a head 5 years later before possibly heading to showrooms before the 2017 draws to a close.

CAR Magazine says that the five door shooting brake version of the second-generation Panamera, which debuted last year, will be gracing the Geneva show floor in March. This was confirmed by Dr Stefan Utsch, director of sales and marketing for the Panamera nameplate. More good news is that it will look a lot like the 2012 concept that wowed audiences prior.

In addition to the 5-door body style and rear hatch, the Sport Turismo will feature the rear LED light bar that runs the width of the car, joining the two tail lamps. It’s a design cue that has now become more prevalent in the most recent generation of Porsches including the 718 Boxster and all-new Panamera.

Once it does hit the market, it will likely compete directly with cars like the Ferrari FF and Bentley Continental GT in addition to sparring for customers as an alternative to the fast saloons of today like the four door Panamera does today.

In that vein, it’s also possible Porsche may consider a sportier 3-door version of the Panamera Sport Turismo, becoming something of spiritual successor to the Porsche 928 of the 1980s, which was a front-engine, four seater luxury GT car.
