Here are the stats that Porsche fans want to know about the new 911 GT3: 350kW, zero to 100km/h in 3.5 seconds and a Nurburgring lap time below 7min 30secs.
Time flies – the first 911 GT3 appeared back in 1999 and since then 14,145 have been produced. Now the fifth-generation model is here with a new body, engine, transmission and chassis. The naturally-aspirated direct injection 3.9-litre flat six (similar to the engine in the Carrera S) cranks out its 350kW at 8250rpm and revs all the way to 9000rpm. There’s also unique steering wheel paddle-shifters for the seven-speed PDK transmission and new ‘active’ rear steering for sharper chassis dynamics and a new electronic variable differential lock.
The all-new GT3 rides on 20-inch central-locking wheels which for the first time are forged aluminium (19-inchers on the previous generation) and sits 30mm closer to the ground. Brakes are also uprated.
Aerodynamics are conspicuous – note the three-piece front spoiler and new-look fixed rear wing – and the GT3’s bodyshell is 25 per-cent stiffer than the regular Carrera.
Oh we hope Porsche lets us drive one of their cars soon…we love them.
