Demand, it seems, will quickly outstrip supply.
Performance marques are on the rise, and Volvo’s newly spun-off marque Polestar is enjoying immense success after its successful brand launch a couple of months ago, with interested parties registering their interest since. As a result of those registrations, Polestar has now announced the 6 markets where it will launch its Polestar Space retail locations, and subsequently the first markets to receive Polestar 1 coupes.
Polestar will be opening their retail Spaces in the US, China, Germany, Norway, and the Netherlands, as well as in its home-market of Sweden, by mid-2019. It’s said that Polestar received “one registration a minute” on launch day, with many keen on being a pioneer of Polestar’s subscription-based ownership model, which they say “delivers hassle-free usage.”
Polestar won’t be selling cars the way we think about car sales today. Instead, its cars will be offered via a subscription package that bundles things like insurance, depreciation, servicing, and varous on-demand benefits, with no upfront deposit. The Polestar 1 will be the first car to be available under this scheme, with the company planning more models to follow.
Production of the Polestar 1 will begin in mid 2019, just before the Polestar Spaces open worldwide. Manufacturing will take place in an all-new Polestar Production Centre in Chengdu, China, with the construction of the facility already underway. You can read more about the Polestar 1 here.
