Peugeot is riding on a wave of success insofar as its SUVs are concerned, with both the 3008 and 5008 garnering great acclaim from critics and observers alike across the globe. With Peugeot’s unique design language and fervour for flair, it’s no wonder that they’ve been received well, and now the company wants to continue its success by adding another trendy model to its range: An SUV Coupe.

With muscular looks, a dramatic roofline, and an enveloping cabin, coupe SUVs are all the rage at present, with BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and even Toyota cashing in on the interest surrounding these ‘driver focused’ high-riding models. The 4008, as it’s rumoured to be called, will take the 3008 and add a great deal of styling flair, which shouldn’t be too hard for Peugeot, and even bring a degree of drama to the driving character, too.

“Remember when we said two years ago, that we would launch 5 new SUVs in the coming two years? We did it: Three in Europe, and two in China. It’s time to come back to our DNA, and then we’ll maintain the growth of our SUV range in the future, because the market is strong.” — Jean-Phillipe Imparato, CEO, Peugeot

Being a first for the brand, the 4008 will feature bespoke design details like blade-shaped LED daytime running lights, an aggressive fascia with a unique grille, as well as a full-width taillight across the rear. The 4008 won’t trade entirely on style though, as a unique suspension setup that will offer a touch more driver involvement, something that we have little doubt the 4008 will be capable of offering, given that it sits on the same EMP2 platform as the 308 (and its GTi variant).

Being an EMP2 car, the 4008 will be spacious enough to carry 5-adults and their gear. Motivation for the 4008 will come, according to AutoExpress, from three- and four-cylinder PureTech petrol mills, as well as BlueHDi oilers. A couple of plug-in hybrids are expected to join the range too, with one featuring a sole electric motor on the front, and the other with an electric motor on either axle, with the former expected to pack 178kW, and the latter a more meaty 223kW.
