French brand Peugeot will celebrate 75 years of cabriolets when it launches the stylish new 308CC model later this month.
The dramatically-styled Peugeot 401 Eclipse - which introduced the first electrically retractable steel roof – debuted in 1934.
While that technology went on to the 301, 402 and 601 models, only 79 of the original Eclipse were manufactured. It was actually a collaboration between Peugeot concessionaire Darl’Mat, coachbuilder Pourtout and designer Paulin.
It’s safe to say Peugeot Automobiles Australia will quickly sell more than 79 of the new 308CC – a great-looking replacement for 307CC. In fact over 10 per cent of the company’s annual sales in Australia are chalked-up to coupe cabriolet vehicles.
Compared to the superseded 307CC, the new 308CC will offer more interior and trunk space, an upgraded interior and a wider range of engines and transmissions. The high-tech roof can be opened or closed in just 20 seconds.
For example, Peugeot’s HDi FAP technology will be available for the first time in a convertible – coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission. Peugeot’s handy 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine is also included in the 308CC mix.
The 308CC is a five-star performer in the EuroNCap barrier testing and boasts side head airbags in its safety arsenal.
