As expected for its ‘home’ motor show, Peugeot will have all systems firing in a couple of weeks in Paris with a massive 4,000sqm stand showing all-new models and concepts.
We’ve already covered the ‘Exalt’ concept and now comes new of the Peugeot ‘Quartz’ – a hybrid SUV concept.
A sleek looker, the Peugeot Quartz looks impressive with that long bonnet, set-back passenger cell and front louvres for cooling.
At 4.5-metres in length and 2.0-metres wide, it’s no shrinking violet and rides on Peugeot’s EMP2 platform (shared with the 308).
Up-front are LED lights and a3d version of the Peugeot ‘lion’ badge which has a chequered pattern appearing to shift as you change your viewing angle.
A glass roof with two spoilers ducts air to the rear.
High strength wheels with composite flaps have minimal spokes for aerodynamic flow and brake cooling.
The Peugeot Quartz uses a composite bonded structure so engineers were able to remove the traditional B-pillars and use scissor doors.
Inside breaks new ground with the world’s first use of digitally woven textile with polyester fibre from recycled plastic water bottles and a basalt centre console.
Underneath is a hybrid drivetrain whose heart is turbocharged 1.6-litre, four-cylinder engine developed by Peugeot Sport and 85kW electric motor both driving the front wheels. Another 85kW electric motor drives the rear wheels and also acts as a generator.
And there’s an active pneumatic suspension with constantly adjustable ride height between 300mm and 350mm – an optical system uses cameras linked to the satellite navigation which anticipates changes in road surface.
