Peugeot has a lot to show off for the next evolution of its i-Cockpit dashboard system that includes more tech, more screens, and customisable driver profiles.

The second version of Peugeot’s i-Cockpit dashboard + infotainment suite will be making its debut in the next Peugeot 3008. And to make sure we’re all up to speed, the French automaker has provided extra details about exactly what has been changed/added and why.

The basic layout of the i-Cockpit has not changed much, at least upon first glance – we’ll have to actually use it before making any worthwhile comparisons. Peugeot is clearly invested in way of laying out its driver experience, sticking to its guns even if its not unanimously embraced as a better system.

There’s an 8-inch touchscreen that now sits atop the centre console above the air conditioning vents as opposed to a screen that’s integrated into the fascia. This is used to control infotainment functions as it did before but has been optimised for a more intuitive user experience and to improve general interface fluidity.

What’s new here is the 12.3-inch high-resolution display that sits in place of a traditional analogue tachometer and speedometer. If you’re familiar with Audi’s Virtual Cockpit, this is very close to that system, at least on paper.

Peugeot says the information displayed on the driver-facing screen will be customisable while providing all the information that the driver might need. The new system also supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirrorlink technologies.

There isn’t any mention yet about how long it might take for Peugeot to let this new generation of i-Cockpit to reach their other models, especially the ones that sit higher up in their range such as the 508. Seeing as how the system is debuting in the all-new 3008 crossover, perhaps we’ll have to wait until Peugeot brings out all-new versions of each model for it to receive the improved i-Cockpit.
