Toyota already has an engine supply and technical partnership with BMW and overnight came news the Japanese giant is in further collaboration with France’s PSA Peugeot Citroen.
Under the agreement, PSA Peugeot Citroen will supply commercial vans (Peugeot Export and Citroen Jumpy) to Toyota for sale in Europe. At this stage no names have been given to the Toyota-badged products.
Supply starts mid next year and extends beyond 2020.
Toyota Motor Europe will part-fund development of the next generation models but there will be no joint production or capital investment.
PSA Peugeot Citroen and Toyota Motor Europe have an existing partnership in small cars.
“This agreement launches the development of a new generation of mid-size Light Commercial Vehicle offering both companies a competitive product for the European market,” revealed PSA Peugeot Citroen’s Jean-Christophe Quemard.
