Peugeot Breaks Ground On the New Indian Production Facility

Work has started in Sanand, India on Peugeot’s new $750-million manufacturing plant.

The new facility occupies 600 acres and, when complete, will comprise a manufacturing plant and an engine/ gearbox plant. To maximise production efficiencies, some land has been left vacant for companies supplying components to the Peugeot plant to construct their own facilities.

When operational the Peugeot plant will create 5000 jobs for local workers.

According to the local Gujurat State, the plan for the Sanand area, site of the Peugeot plant, is to create an automotive manufacturing hub and to support this, the State is creating an Automotive Skills of Development Institute to supply skilled labour to Peugeot and other manufacturers.

Peugeot will display its vehicles in January 2012 at the Delhi Auto Expo show.
