In a further sign of the global shift in automotive markets, French manufacturer Peugeot chose to unveil its handsome new 408 in Beijing, China.
The 408 is a product of a joint venture between PSA Peugeot and the Chinese group DFM and although right-hand-drive production has not been officially confirmed, Peugeot Automobiles Australia expects this will be rubber-stamped and we should see the nicely-styled sedan in Australia sooner rather than later.
“It’s an exiting proposition,” explained General Manager Ken Thomas. “The car has an extended wheelbase allowing for more interior space and the sedan shape obviously allows for more boot space.”
Featuring modern ‘half-height architecture’ and the massive interior space demanded of vehicles in this segment of the Chinese market, launch of the 408 is part of a concentrated market offensive.
The French brand racked-up sales of 410,000 vehicles in China last year and hopes the 408 will account for 30 per cent growth in 2010.
