At the ongoing Geneva Motor Show, Peugeot’s 3008 SUV was named the 2017 European Car of the Year following the decision by a judging panel that comprised of 58 regional journalists.
The previous car Peugeot to win the same accolade was in 2014 with the then-new 308 hatch. This year, the French car had to beat out some tough competition to emerge the victor, including the Alfa Romeo Giulia (2nd place), the Mercedes-Benz W213 E-Class (3rd place), and the Volvo S90 (4th place).
Other contenders were the Citroen C3, Toyota C-HR, and Nissan Micra. The 3008 clinched the title this year due to the many aspects of the car that consistently impressed judges, including the modern and well built interior, bold design, strong engines, and generous amount of safety equipment.
The 3008 is due to makes its Australian debut within the first quarter of 2017 where it will compete with small SUV staples such as the Hyundai Tucson, Nissan Qashqai, Renault Koleos, and, soon, the all-new second-generation Mazda CX-5.
The news couldn’t come at a better time for Peugeot, as their parent company has just confirmed their acquisition of the European division of General Motors, namely the Opel and Vauxhall brands.
