Mitsubishi’s Outlander PHEV – the plug-in hybrid version of the all-new Outlander SUV – will bow at the Paris Motor Show.
Locally, Mitsubishi Australia will launch the new Outlander in November.
The Japanese giant claims the Outlander PHEV is the world’s first plug-in hybrid SUV and the newcomer adopts a raft of technologies from the i-MiEV compact electric car which is now on-sale globally.
Mitsubishi says the Outlander PHEV combines the environmental benefits of a petrol-electric hybrid with the off-road agility of the competent Outlander SUV. Combined rage between re-fuelling is said to be more than 880kms.
Plans are to introduce the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV in Japan early next year, followed by Europe, North America and other global markets.
It’s a three-mode hybrid. You can select zero emissions electric driving, ‘Series Hybrid’ where the petrol engine acts as a generator when the battery is low or ‘Parallel Hybrid’ where the petrol engine drives the wheels.
Independent electric motors drive both front and rear wheels.
Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV uses a 12 kWh lithium-ion battery and has an all-electric range of around 55kms.
