Now here’s a ‘stretch’ with a capital ‘S’ – Audi is contemplating an off-road version of the iconic TT coupe.
Presented at the Beijing Motor Show, Audi says the TT offroad concept provides a glimpse of how a future new addition to the TT family could look.
The technology goes much further however with the four-door TT offroader debuting a plug-in hybrid drivetrain with two electric motors. Combined output is a staggering 300kW/650Nm, yet fuel consumption is as low as 1.9l/100kms.
At the heart is Audi’s 2.0 TFSI petrol engine with 215kW/380Nm. The slim disc-shaped 40kW/220Nm electric motor is integrated into the six-speed e-Stronic transmission and the second 85kW/270Nm electric motor is mounted on the rear axle.
Audi mounts the eight module, liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery in front of the rear axle for a balanced weight distribution of 54:46.
The car displayed in Beijing is equipped with Audi Wireless Charging technology – a plate with a coil and inverter is placed on the parking spot and connected to the power grid and charging begins when the TT drives onto the plate.
On the styling front, you’ll notice the 21-inch alloy wheels with a design borrowed from the Audi e-tron models and the e-tron style narrow grille. The chassis is a version of the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform.
Measuring 4.39 metres in length , 1.85 meres wide and affording a wheelbase of 2.63 metres the Audi TT offroad concept is similar in size to the current Q3 SUV.
Inside are two new Audi technologies which the German giant says are almost ready for production roll-out – radar/camera-based Intersection Assistant and Online Traffic Light Information.
And interior style for the four-seater is a combination of TT and ‘Q’ family members.
