Continuing its phenomenal global expansion, Korean giant Hyundai has opened a vehicle manufacturing plant in St Petersburg, Russia.
The Russian plant joins other Hyundai operations outside South Korea in North America, China, India, Turkey and the Czech Republic.
Hyundai’s Russian plant will begin manufacturing vehicles in January next year and is slated to produce 105,000 units in 2011, growing to 150,000 per year from 2012.
When fully operational, Hyundai’s Russian plant will employ 5,300 local workers and the company plans to develop and source components from the local automotive industry.
Hyundai is Russia’s first foreign-owned full-cycle vehicle production facility capable of undertaking the complete process from steel stamping to final assembly.
Already a large number of Russian employees have undertaken intensive training at Hyundai’s plants in South Korean and the Czech Republic.
