Nissan's Tiida Replacement Unveiled

In terms of volume sales in Australia, one of the most important new model debuts at the Shanghai Auto Show received little fanfare – Nissan’s replacement for its Tiida hatchback.

Between now and when this car is launched locally next year, you’ll get very long odds from Car Showroom for it being badged ‘Tiida’ and very short odds for its assuming the badge ‘Pulsar’.

The new C-segment hatchback from Nissan is an all-round better package than the current Tiida – a more global and contemporary look inside and out and extra size (the wheelbase is 10cms longer than the current Tiida and that means more legroom). As well, the large windscreen and angled side windows deliver not only a high performance look but also a brighter cabin.

Nissan says the design keys for the newcomer were ‘Fluid & Brisk’ and the well-balanced proportions, complex exterior and streamlined bodysides all combine to deliver a more up-market, premium look and feel.

That premium feel continues inside with soft, comfortable seats and armrests, a modern, floating center console and sharp instrumentation.

Nissan chose China’s largest motor show to debut its new global hatchback as Chinese market models - featuring the first Japanese turbocharged engine to be sold in China - will be manufactured there.

Details from Nissan Australia have been sparse so far ahead of local launch.
