Nissan has shown a future direction for London’s ‘Black Cabs’ in the form of the Nissan NV200 London Taxi.
The newcomer is claimed to be 50 per-cent more fuel efficient than some Black Cabs and in further good news for London’s Mayor Boris Johnson’s ‘Air Quality For London’ strategy, Nissan has announced it will be starting trials with another version of the NV200 London Taxi powered by an electric motor.
Nissan has for some years supplied its 2.7-litre TD27 diesel engine to the ‘Fairway’ and TX1 model Black Cabs so it enters the market with a polished reputation amongst London cabbies.
Based on Nissan’s NV200 compact van, the NV200 London Taxi – like the iconic Black Cabs – runs a rear bench seat for three people and two rearwards-facing individual seats behind the driver.
Nissan says the NV200 London Taxi will be priced below current models and its 1.5-litre dCi diesel engine drives through the favoured six-speed manual transmission.
