Nissan engineers continue to be at the forefront of electric vehicle development and the company has just revealed its 2011 Next Generation Fuel Cell Stack.
The new stack has much better power density – up to a claimed world’s best of 2.5kW per litre. That’s more than 2.5 times greater than Nissan’s 2005 version.
Size is down too – about half the size of earlier versions.
But perhaps the most significant news for electric vehicle use is the cost – now down to around one-sixth of older models. This reduction has been achieved by using less platinum and reducing the number of parts.
Locally, Nissan’s excellent LEAF full-size five-door hatchback electric vehicle continues to undergo tests by government agencies.
