Nissan, ahead of the Los Angeles Motorshow next week, has revived a heritage badge and slapped it on a limited-run Juke crossover SUV. Dubbed the ‘Black Pearl Edition,’ this mean-looking thing draws inspiration from the 1978 280Z that debuted the name, and gives it a modern twist.
Where the namesake was designed as a way to test the market, this US-spec Juke SV has its sights set squarely on individuality: With only 1,000 units for the US and 250 units for Canada, this is certainly one exclusive SUV. Punters will be given a choice between two- and four-wheel drive, with the bonnet inhabited by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine, paired to a CVT automatic.
The Juke sees a series of modifications to make it stand out from the vanilla Juke on which it’s based. Outside, there are contrasting white elements the bumpers, the headlamps, the door mirrors, door handles, and rear spoiler. Icing on the (black) cake comes in the form of ‘Black Pearl Edition’ badges and 17” alloy wheels, also finished in black.
Inside, the Black Pearl comes with black fabric seats (replete with heating), and most surfaces get covered in black fabric with white stitching. More white is to be found smattered around the interior, finding acreage on the centre console, aircond vents, power window switches, gear knob and steering wheel.
The Juke Black Pearl edition will retail in the US for $22,550 for the 2WD, and $24,400 for the 4WD.
