Nissan's Leaf EV Just Wants To Keep Moving Forward In The Cold

Nissan To Recall 47,000 Leaf EVs For Braking Issues

Nissan has issued a recall for their Leaf electric cars totalling over 47,000 units in total for a braking issue that may occur during operation in very cold temperatures.

During extremely low temperatures, the Leaf’s electronic brake booster may seize up and not provide adequate stopping power unless the driver exerts a much higher force upon the pedal to bring the car to a halt. So far, no injuries or deaths have resulted from this issue.

Under normal driving, the a driver who is unaware of such a problem affecting his or her car, would require a much longer stopping distance. The possibility of a collision is also increased with padestrians or any other situation that requires quick responses to brake.

The news comes as a neat little counter to the Maserati recall reported on earlier which concerns, conversely, an acceleration defect.

Also like the Maserati case, the Nissan Leaf recall was issued in the United States, although it wouldn’t be surprising to learn units in other countries having this issue. As it stands, this recall applies to Leafs sold in the US and Canada between model year 2013 and 2015, built between November 19th 2012 and July 31st, 2015.
